Duties of Director

1.To select a play, to get the approval of the committee for its production on chosen dates for a specified number of performances. Provide committee with a proposal with a budget

2.To arrange a date for auditions and contact anyone the Director can envisage in the roles.

4 .To obtain assistance, if desired, of the Artistic Director or one of the committee in casting. To organise the auditions and notify by phone the successful actors within a few days.

4.To organise and publish for cast a rehearsal and performance schedule. Schedule should give dates for ‘scripts down’, for lighting, sound, stage crew to be present.

5.To organise the purchase, printing, distribution of scripts. Organise collection of scripts after the last performance. In addition to either apply for or ensure that application for rights is made.

6.To select a stage crew and to arrange at least two production meetings before the last week of rehearsals.

7.To work with the designer, set manager to ensure that the style of the show reflects the intentions of the Director.

8.To delegate to the Producer any task if he/she feels his/her work schedule is too heavy.

9.To discuss with the Producer all items of expenditure over $50.00.

10.Appoint an Assistant Director or Production Assistant if required and inform them of their duties.

11.To keep media co-ordinator, ticketing people & FOH aware of performance times and dates.
