Sylvia Plath: A Dramatic Portrait

Sylvia Plath is universally recognised as one of the most influential poets and writers of the twentieth century. She was best known for her poetry collections The Colossus and Ariel and her novel The Bell Jar. Her life and early suicide has become the stuff of modern legend with Sylvia regarded as somewhat of an icon within the international feminist movement.

The Lismore Theatre Company production of Sylvia Plath: A Dramatic Portrait is a vivid and powerful theatrical presentation covering Plath’s life from childhood and dramatizing her best known works. Four exceptional actors form the LTC cast and each portrays various elements and scenes from Sylvia Plath’s life. The production is fast paced and clearly demonstrates Plath’s wry humour, her harsh wit, her liveliness and her exceptional, brilliant use of language.

Performances are at 8pm on Fri 22 July, Sat 23 July, Fri 29 July, Sat 30 July with matinee performances at 2pm on Sun 24 July and 5pm on Sun 31 July.

As an example, the whole theatre of 88 seats can be purchased for around $11 per seat and then offered for, say, $20 or more per ticket realising a minimum profit of $800,  and potentially much more. The Rochdale Theatre

And a quick update on LTC’s progress with Lismore City Council in relation to the disposal of the Rochdale Theatre. It has become clear over the past few months, that Council doesn’t want to continue to be the landlord responsible for the theatre building, and should LTC continue to be a tenant, the rent would rise considerably. In light of this, LTC put forward a proposal to purchase the theatre at a minimal price. A number of Councillors have expressed support for this proposal. Council staff have yet to provide their report to a Council meeting but they have promised to inform LTC when this occurs so that we may speak to the issue.

Meanwhile, we have  had a wonderful letter of support from Arts Northern Rivers and also an offer of support from Trevor Acfield and the Greens representatives in Lismore.
